Grown mainly for its decorative chain like flower pendants this small tree only reaches about 15 feet at full size and is covered in ivy like, deep green leaves. Nothing about this plant is normal and even the bark is unusual. Often used for bonsai gardening this is an easy to grow plant for the urban garden collection or small patio in a city setting. The growth rate of Parrots Beak Shrub Ching-chai will vary greatly depending on soil type, sunlight, temperature and other factors. A few leaves are often trimmed prior to shipping to reduce transpiration and travel stress. CONTAINER SIZE All Parrots Beak Shrub Ching-chai grow very well in containers, indoors or on the patio. Plants need enough room for growth, generally a 6″ to a 12″ round container will suffice to get started. Remember the looser the roots, the taller and healthier your Parrots Beak Shrub Ching-chai will be. When the plant becomes root bound its growth will slow, at that point it is time for a larger pot. SOIL Parrots Beak Shrub Ching-chai enjoy a well drained, general potting mix easily found at your local box store. Remember try to stay away from arid or wet, mucky soils. FERTILIZER To help establish your new Parrots Beak Shrub Ching-chai, fertilize sparingly a few inches away from the base, tri-annually with a slow time released product. Unfertilized they will tend to grow at a slower pace. Note: The heavy salts in cheaper fertilizers will damage the roots and possibly kill the plant. Its best to use a brand you know and trust.
