Description Family Poaceae Originating from the Mediterranean. Showy, bold and brilliantly coloured foliage is borne on bamboo like stems, making a big eye-catching statement, even from a distance. The broad leaves are handsomely variegated with wide stripes of deep golden-yellow, against a backdrop of rich green, and are borne on similarly marked stems. Semi evergreen in mild winters, this spectacular variety has a bamboo-like appearance but is a reed, and makes a tight non-running clump. Growing vigorously in damp and even boggy conditions it is adaptable to all but the thinnest dry soils in full sun or light shade. Hardy in southern and coastal areas.
