Description Family Poaceae Originating from the Mediterranean. Beautiful pendulous pure white variegated leaves. Upright reed stems form spreading clumps. Easy to grow in any soil or pond margin in full sun. Spectacularly bright, pure white variegated, and elegantly pendulous long leaves cascade from upright stems, forming dense, slowly spreading clumps of tassel-like foliage. Each lush dark green leaf boasts a unique formation of variegated stripes, some leaves can be almost entirely white. Similar to grasses, Arundos are reeds often found in the wild near water, but they also thrive in non-boggy soil, especially in moisture-retentive conditions. Growing from shallow-rooted rhizomes Giant Reeds do make spreading clumps, more so in boggy soil, but are easily controlled. They do not have long, running rhizomes like bamboo. Easy to grow in full sun or part shade. This variety is slightly more tender than the species, so mulching with straw in harsh winters is advisable. Height and spread after 2-5 years 2.5m x 1m.
